Steep hollows, shale slopes, and springs emerging after rain make water control a continuing concern on many West Virginia properties. #8 Limestone has clean crushed pieces and very limited fine material, leaving it open for drainage applications. It can be used in paver details or concrete batches where a small crushed material is called for, but it does not take the place of routing hillside flow.
For seep control near a driveway, address the collection point above the drive and carry the water through the intended pipe before placing stone in the drainage detail. Beneath pavers, build the prepared base separately, then place #8 Limestone in the designated setting area. That order is especially practical where moderate frost and repeated hillside runoff can work on an unfinished hardscape.

Crossing survived the ice storm fine
After we lost our culvert to a flash flood off the branch behind the house near Grantsville, I figured I'd redo the whole crossing right instead of patching it again. Bought three tons of number 8 for bedding the new pipe and finishing a short walkway up to the porch afterward. The driver from West Virginia Rock Supply backed his tandem right up the gravel lane, which I honestly didn't think he'd manage given how narrow it is, and dumped it exactly where my grandson had marked with stakes. Walkway the older folks can manage
Our little congregation outside Spencer needed a proper walkway from the gravel lot to the front steps instead of the mud path we'd had for years.
